The Chains

© 2007 TiteFood.com

The Chains Colorado is loaded with chain restaurants. Not so long ago, the national chains had nothing to recommend them but in recent years, they have started serving at least one vegetarian meal - usually a veggie or black bean burger with salad or fries. Many of the newer local chains are quite good and focus on fresh and organic.
  • Bennigan's Grill and Tavern - You can substitute a Morningstar® Black Bean burger patty in any burger selection.
  • Boston Market - Get the side item sampler - choose three sides and cornbread for $4.99 - Green beans, roasted potato wedges, hot apples, mixed veggies, corn and more.
  • Burger King - The BK Veggie and onion rings is the best of fast food drive-thrus!
  • Chili's - Chili's makes a very good black bean burger and French fries
  • Chipotle - Try the fajita burrito with black beans and guacamole. Chipotle has the best guacamole of the fast food Mexican places.
  • Del Taco - The bean and rice burrito with guacamole is good
  • Einstein Bros Bagels - try the everything bagel toasted twice with hummus and tomato slices
  • Noodles - Most dishes come with the option of Tofu. My favorite is the Thai Curry Soup. All the Asian noodle dishes are vegan. The tofu is organic.
  • Qdoba - Try their Garlic Herb Grilled Veggies as either a burrito or on a taco salad
  • Red Robin - Red Robin serves a huge, delicious Boca burger in any of their burger creations with French fries
  • Ruby Tuesday - Try their veggie burger
  • Subway - The bread is baked on site and is always fresh. Try the Veggie Patty.
  • T.G.I. Friday's - Try the Vegetable Grill Pasta with Portobello mushrooms and asparagus
  • Taco Bell - Their bean burritos are always a safe choice.
  • Tokyo Joe's - Tokyo Joe's makes a mean bowl of veggies. Try the Boulder Veggie Bowl with brown rice, tofu and all kinds of veggies. Being a Japanese restaurant, Tokyo Joe's is the most expensive of the chains where you order at the counter.
Chains to avoid:
  • Applebee's - nothing vegetarian at all
  • Black Eyed Pea - most of the vegetable side dishes have meat in them. The rest are soaked in sugar.
  • Country Buffet
  • McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco John's, Arby's, Good Times, Sonic, A&W
  • Village Inn, IHOP, Denny's, Perkins - Go only if you want pancakes, waffles or oatmeal.
