Domo is a country Japanese restaurant - very authentic and very different from any other Japanese restaurant I have eaten in. The décor was marvelous with giant tree trunk seats, stone slab tables, and Japanese newspaper chandeliers. The formal Japanese garden with its koi pond is just beautiful for summer dining. There is a small museum and a large dojo off the garden to see as well. I would recommend it for a fine dining experience.
Fabulous menu for vegetarians! Lots of sea vegetables and mushroom varieties in all the dishes. Numerous rice and veggie dishes (your choice of brown or white rice), authentic Japanese curry, and soba or udon and veggie bowls to choose from. All lunch dishes are served with three chef's country side dishes of the day and miso soup. Dinner is served with 7 chef's sides.
Domo also has a special Light Menu of reduced sugar dishes - 95% less sugar used in cooking! This is great realization by a restaurant that many people don't want consume hidden sugar in restaurant meals. There are also 15 different teas to choose from (the medicinal benefits of each were listed right on the menu) and lots of beer and sake. I had the persimmon leaf tea. It was very mild.
I had the lunch Nanohana Donburi for $5.25. This is a dish from Northern Japan. It consisted of brown rice with steamed oriental greens, tofu puff and funori seaweed with a ginger soy sauce taste. The greens and funori were absolutely delicious. The rice was a bit dry and as no soy sauce is actually served - I poured some of the miso soup into my bowl to moisten it. Instead of soy sauce or salt, the dish was salted by the addition of a small, pickled red Japanese berry with a very crunchy center and pickled mushrooms. It was a very satisfying bowl of rice and vegetables.
The chef's sides were imitation crab with celery and mung bean sprouts (vegetarian substitute available on request), pickled carrots and daikon, and buckwheat soba noodles. The carrots and daikon were my favorite of the side dishes but the soba was nice too.

On a less wonderful note, lunch was very slow in coming - not for a quick lunch hour if you work nearby. If you are used to adding a lot of salt to your food, you may be a little disappointed too. No salt, pepper, or soy sauce is available so as not to change the flavor the chef intended.
